Conway, SC...Mr. Ralph Claude Bussey, 76, husband of Gloria Mayson Bussey, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Conway Medical Center. Mr. Bussey was born on December 25, 1938 in Beech Island, SC he was the son of the late Claude and Sarah Parkman Bussey. Mr. Bussey was a graduate of North Augusta, SC High School and attended the University of Georgia at Augusta. His career spanned several decades where he owned a construction/mechanical company and was employed by various companies as an estimator and project manager. He served as a Building Official/Floodplain Manager for North Augusta and North Myrtle Beach. Mr. Bussey was also a former Construction Manager for the Landing Cooperation of Myrtle Beach. He served as building code consultant and special investigator for the SC LLR. Additionally, he served as Building Official/Floodplain Manager for Conway. Upon retirement from the City of Conway in 2003, he joined Coastal Construction Group, LLC as a project manager/estimator. Mr. Bussey sat on the Trade Advisory Board for HGTC and taught construction courses for 15 years. He was appointed by Gov. Carroll Campbell, to a task force charged with setting state-wide certifications for Building Officials. Mr. Bussey was a past-president of the Building Officials Association of Horry and Georgetown Counties and served on the board of the Building Officials Association of SC. He was past president of the Coastal Code Enforcement Association of SC which was awarded Chapter of the Year by SBCCI in 1998. Mr. Bussey was past-president and board member of the SC Plumbing, Gas, and Mechanical Association, being certified as a Master Plumber in SC & GA. He was a member and Qualified Building Official by the International Code Council. Mr. Bussey served on the Building Committee for Conway Chamber of Commerce and was an advisor for construction of the Theatre of the Republic. Mr. Bussey served as an advisor on Building Codes for Horry - Georgetown Homebuilders Association and was a member of the City of Conway Flood Mitigation Committee. Mr. Bussey was a member of the Conway Lions Club, a life member of Masonic Lodge 315 A.F.M. North Augusta, SC and a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of NMB where he served in numerous roles over many years. Mr. Bussey was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving from 1956-1962 and was a life member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Gloria Bussey; his children, Renate Bussey Grose and husband Tyler of Summerfield, NC and Kevin Ralph Bussey of Quincy, IL; his grandson, Brandon Tyler Grose, US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; sister, Doris Bussey Hewett of Belvedere, SC; and numerous cousins and extended family members. The family will receive friends at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 7, 2015 at First Baptist Church North Myrtle Beach with Dr. Wayne Brown and Father Jason Collins officiating. The family will also receive friends at Rowland Funeral Home in North Augusta, SC from 10:00 - 11:00 AM Saturday. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, with military honors and Masonic Rites, will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in North Augusta, SC.
