North Myrtle Beach......Roberta Ward Rust, 97, died Sunday, September 23, 2007 at her home in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Mrs. Rust was born October 29, 1909 in Horry County, the daughter of the late Robert Vance Ward and Katherine Boege Ward. She had lived more than 35 years in Conway, SC before moving to NMB. After graduating from Mitchell College, she continued her education at the University of NC Chapel Hill. For 42 years she was a school teacher and principal in Horry County. Mrs. Rust was a charter member of the Business Professional Women's Association of Conway, a member of the National, State and Horry County Education Associations. She served on the first board of trustees that developed the Horry County Museum. Her other memberships included the Horry County Historical Society and the Fine Arts Club of Conway. Mrs. Rust was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church of North Myrtle Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl K. Rust and two sisters, Grace W. White ad Carrie Lee Ward. The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to caregivers Rose Burdette and Rebecca Ann Long. Surviving are: one son, Dr. Carl K. Rust, II and wife Polly of Wilmington, NC; one grandson Carl K. Rust, III Trey and wife Thayer of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two nephews, Al White of Pawley's Island, SC and Vance White of Springfield, IL. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Goldfinch Funeral Home with the Pastor Hobby Outten officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Calliham, Sen. Dick Elliott, Steve Bostian, Dr. Russell Burgess, Hubby Bellamy, Logan White, Ernest Basinger and James Autry. The family will receive friends 2:00 PM Tuesday until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Horry County Museum, 438 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526 or to Roberta Rust Education Fund, King of Glory Lutheran Church, 805 11th Avenue, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582 or to Mercy Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
