Garden City Beach, SC...Susan Dean Cox Graves, 68, died January 23, 2012, of natural causes at her home in Garden City Beach. She was born December 8, 1943, in Conway, a daughter of the late Sanford DeWitt Cox, Jr. and Irene Butler Cox. She was the mother of Angela Dean Graves and Sanford Cox Graves. She graduated from Conway High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She spent her early career in Chicago as a stewardess for Delta Airlines. She was a loving mother and homemaker and spent the last fifteen years working for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce at its South Strand Branch. She was a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Peter Horry Chapter, South Carolina Chapter XXXI of The Colonial Dames of America, the Horry County Historical Society, and was a charter member of the Dr. Thomas Fincklea Chapter and the Chicora Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames 17th Century. She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway. The lights of her life were her two grandsons. An exceptionally creative person with wide and varied interests and collections, she will be lovingly remembered for giving joy, spreading laughter, and sharing her artistic abilities. Survivors include a daughter Angela Dean Graves of Marietta, Georgia and a son, Sanford Cox Graves and wife Jennifer Alexander Graves of Conway; two grandchildren, Sanford Cox "Ford" Graves, II and Glenn Alexander Graves of Conway; sister, Ann Butler Cox Long and husband James Furman Long of Plantersville; brother-in-law, James Hines Reddick, Jr. of Conway; two nieces, Mary Grey Reddick Moses and husband Ansley Tyler Moses of Lookout Mountain, Georgia and Jill Irene Long Crosswell and husband Dr. Hal Holland Crosswell, III of Columbia; nephew John Reuben Long, II and wife Mary Virginia Hill Long, of Conway; three great nephews, James Thatcher Moses, John Reuben Long, III, and Hal Holland Crosswell, IV; and four great nieces Ann Tyler Moses, Anne Elizabeth Crosswell, Caroline Hill Long, and Virginia Butler Long, and loving aunt Elizabeth "Libby" Taylor Cox of Columbia. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Sylvia Grey Cox Reddick and grandparents Sanford DeWitt and Belle Parker Cox, and Malcolm Claudius and Bunnie Lewis Butler. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Wednesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home Conway Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday from Trinity United Methodist Church, 198 Long Ave., Conway, SC with Rev. Dr. Sandra Stevens-Poirel and Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to The Shepherd's Table, P.O. Box 1782, Conway, SC 28528. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, is in charge.
