Myrtle Beach Thomas Anthony Simoes Thomas Anthony Simoes, 67, died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at MUSC in Charleston, SC. His final days were spent surrounded by family and his many friends he made during his long illness. He lived his life to the fullest and with the love of life and family. He was born in the Bronx, NY and was the son of the late Anthony and Rita Simoes. He grew up in a loving household with his parents and grandparents. He graduated from New York University then married Laura DiGirolamo (Simoes), the love of his life, in 1966, who survives. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City, SC, as well as St. Mary Virgin Mother Parish in Hartsville, SC near their "cabin" where he loved to spend time. His many interests included his family, reading, gardening, cooking, golfing with his buddies, hunting and fishing with his grandchildren, and teaching them how to swim. He was an active member of the Italian Center in Poughkeepsie, NY prior to their moving permanently to SC. He continued volunteering at the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, Grand Strand Lodge #2868 in Myrtle Beach. Previously a member of the Elks Lodge, he would occasionally cook for them. The Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club HOA frequently was treated to his famous "sauce", which was always sought after. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laura Simoes; daughters Patricia Simoes Burgess (Jason Templeton) of Loris, SC; Christine Simoes Tilden (John) of Millersville, MD; grandchildren Thomas Godwin of Montana; Brittany Nicole Burgess, currently serving in the US Navy; Cameron Burgess, Loris, SC; Daniel and David Tilden, MD; brother and sister in law who were like his own brother and sister, Anthony and Vita Marie DiGirolamo; his doting aunt, Emilia Gluck, NY; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Ray Carlo officiating. Inurnment in the church columbarium. The family is holding a Celebration of Life following the service for family and friends, at the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club.
