Vanessa Viles Shalosky, 58, of Conway, SC, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born on March 30, 1960, to Thomas Aaron Viles and Eula Vee Cox Viles, she graduated from Conway High School and The University of South Carolina at Coastal and worked as a registered nurse. She worked at SCDHHS Community Long Term Care for 25 years, most recently becoming the agency director for the Lowcountry region. Vanessa loved her coworkers and was passionate about dedicating her life to serving those in need. Vanessa was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Conway, where she served twice as a deacon and was a longtime member of the choir. Children held a special place in her heart, and she spent much of her time at church as a children's Sunday School teacher and children's choir director. Vanessa loved the simple things in life, including playing the piano which she did beautifully, tending her orchids and garden, reading a good book on the beach, listening to NPR while cleaning on Saturday mornings, and spending Sunday afternoons at her mother's house. Most of all, Vanessa loved her family. She was excited to share all the wonderful things in this world with her grandchildren. Vanessa is survived by her husband of 37 years, Tony; her mother, Eula; her two children: Emily Shelley (Neal) of Charleston and Nick (Naylor) of Philadelphia; her grandchildren Annie Vee and Abbott Thomas Shelley; her sister Vivian Huguley (Jack) of Charleston; and her brother Vaughn Viles (Betty) of Conway. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Vanessa was an amazing, kind, and warm human being. She touched countless lives with her love and generosity and would want us all to remember to love one another above all else. Memorials can be made to the CLTC Client Fund (Post Office Box 8206 Columbia, SC, 29202-8206), which benefits the patients that she devoted her love and time to for so many years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Conway (603 Elm Street), officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor and Rev. Patrick Jones.
